It's a hard balance of trying to enjoy your most recent HUGE investment....and trying to organize your life/dwelling at the same time. Each time I stand outside our new country home I take a deep breath in and just look around. Very surreal. very. I'm dreaming of the day when we can invite all family and friends to enjoy good food and a big bonfire. For now, we tested our new fire ring out by burning some brush from Hubby and son trimming up some very overgrown bushes/trees.
Yes, we still have many, many boxes yet to unpack. I never imagined that I would have issues with putting everything in it's place when we doubled the size of our previous home. Going on 5 weeks in....we are still figuring out where things should go. We have too much stuff, I think. lol One thing I have made it clear is that our living room (well, it's the formal living room but for now it's the main one) does not get cluttered with any boxes what so ever. It's been our place to feel somewhat at home and normal. We fall in love more every day with this new home of ours. <3
I will share more as the rooms start to look.....normal. :)
On July 30th we did close on our home. Of course there was last minute rushing to clear everything out and clean up...very surreal to walk out the last time knowing it's not ours anymore.
So we visited my parents and stayed in their guest room. That night we did learn that our NEW home was set to close on Friday, August 1. This made the thought of being "homeless" a bit more bearable. As soon as we closed and had keys in hand, Josh and I headed to pick up our new washer and dryer set we purchased at Home Depot the night before and go straight to the house. Unloaded the set and walked around the property....
This view is near the back southwest corner of our property....looking up to the house and back of pole barn. Just like the feeling of leaving our old home this too was very surreal. It is ours now.
Oh wait...I can't leave out the excitement a few hours after getting the house. I was not back at house yet with my truck load of dogs/kid and I get a call from my son telling me to HURRY. Josh had something (we still don't know what the source was) spritz him in the face when he was trying to start up the whole house generator that came with our new home. I instantly thought it was battery acid. We rushed to the ER to be sure something wasn't going to damage his eyes. This trip took a couple hours. Needless to say our evening was pretty much done after that. We headed back to my parents to rest. No worries, he is fine. They tested his eyes and although they could tell it was some sort of chemical that had little hazard issue, we still don't know what it was. I will definitely remind him often that I can't leave him alone to explore.
Josh was off working Saturday as the boys and I went to the new home to be there for the Dish Network install. Never had this type of service before so this will be interesting. Five TV's set up FOUR hours later and this is what Brody was doing. But not for long, he kept exploring around the house and outside. He was beyond excited when we were outback looking at our fruit trees trying to decipher which fruit was which when he found this....
This antler was right under one of the apple trees not far from the back of the house. We definitely know we will be seeing deer in our back yard come spring.
Well, I must get back to cleaning the house. You wouldn't believe the bajillion of hooks, nails, tacks and screws (YES SCREWS) that were used in the walls for hanging things in this house. This photo was from one room.....
This post is going to be short. Mainly because I just felt the need to document the crazy day I had and still feeling a bit frustrated it's best to be brief. lol
Received a call from our realtor Wednesday morning. They want to close on our current home BUT our new home doesn't have a close date YET. Long story short I wrangled my emotions and made calls trying to figure out a place or places to stay temporarily. Then after some figuring out the new closing date was set for next Wednesday, July 30th. The kicker....we still do not have closing set for our NEW house. Details are changing by the hour and at this moment paperwork that needs done is getting rushed but lose ends are still abound. I shall return soon...I hope....
I know, those who KNOW us will probably say "why are you wanting to remodel AGAIN???". We looked at many homes and some were like new but they didn't have that "feel". I look at this home and I see it all differently. I will admit I'm a little exhausted thinking about it but it will get done. THEN we will love our 'NEW' 5 bedroom & 4 bath home WITH finished basement. <3
We have about a week left until closing. Although, we don't have a definite date yet it's projected at July 25th. I've spent the last weekend packing things up around the house and hubby cleared a big chunk of his lumber stash from the crawl space....which is a big relief. The boys helped me clear the last of the attic items so those tasks can be marked off.
That is just a glimpse. We currently have 3 storage units that are almost filled to the brim. Going to get a 4th one here in the next week or so. I should clarify that it's a mix of furniture to refurbish for our shop, our personal stuff and hubby's stuff.
around the "new" house! Josh wasn't able to a go to the inspection but the boys and I went. The inspector was excellent and very thorough. There were several flaws that we seen from the start but a few major things have us waiting today for news that the owner will get them repaired. Hopefully this won't be too much of an issue and things will move right along to the closing date. If I haven't said it yet, this whole house selling/buying thing is seriously exhausting (both mentally and physically). I know it will all be worth it in the end though.
It feels like it's taking forever....and then again, it seems like it will be here before we know it. lol Tomorrow I am going to the new house to be there during the inspection. We are still waiting on the appraisal results for both homes. Keeping fingers crossed they both come back "top dollar". :) Planning to take a few pics tomorrow and maybe even get a measurement or two.
Or something like that. We made an offer and it was countered and we went back one more time. Somehow, he caved and signed it. Yes, pending....it's pending to US! Things seem to be moving faster but yet slower. Our house has been inspected and we are awaiting to hear if there is anything that the buyers may request to be repaired. We can't think of anything that would need done. Appraisal check was dropped off and we are awaiting the scheduled time for our new home to be inspected. Projected double closings are around July 25th...give or take a couple days.
Thoughts of updating and tweaking our home has consumed my mind. I have only drove out by it about every other day. It's about 2.5 miles from where we live now. It was a little shocking and extremely exciting to see a SOLD sign on our new home already. Our current home doesn't even have a PENDING sign on it yet. lol I'm not complaining really, I love seeing that bold SOLD! marker in OUR YARD!!! Oh, I do want to mention that I can't get over how things "happen for a reason". This was one of the first homes we had our eye on from the vary start of our search months ago. It almost slipped through our fingers a couple months ago as it was pending. Unbelievably thankful and counting my lucky stars. :)
This past weekend proved to be a good one. We had a total of 4 showings lined up and received 2 offers. Pleasantly surprised to not have "haggled" with anyone on our home selling price. It's just reaffirmation that we did do a darn good job of updating and caring for this home. We learned who will be purchasing our home and are thrilled to know of them and are genuinely excited for their first home.
As soon as we signed their accepted offer we made a THIRD offer on the home we can't seem to get out of our thoughts. Hoping today brings good results. If it doesn't....the stress will surely set in on what we will do when closing comes around for our current home in 45 days.
Passing the two week mark lead to a steady flow of house showings. This weekend 2 different previous viewers came back. On top of that we have two more showings in the mix. One can only hope for multiple offers. We are heading out today to Ohio for a family reunion on the hubby's side. Perfect timing to get away and let contracts come in. Monday will definitely be interesting. We do know that one young couple with two little children have made an offer and we are waiting on our realtor to go over it with us. Things keep getting more real. Found myself up early this morning pulling all of our manuals from our upgrades we put in the house over the last 10 years. Not sure if the new owners will appreciate them or not.
